Psychology Graduation Ceremonies

The Psychology Department would like to invite you to this year's graduation ceremonies for our Graduate and Undergraduate students.

Undergraduate Recognition Ceremony

We are happy to announce that we will be holding our Undergraduate Recognition Ceremony at the Sydney Goldstein Theater, formally known as the Nourse Theater, on Wednesday, May 29th from 6-8:15pm. 

Nominations for a student speaker during the ceremony are now being accepted. Self-nominations are welcomed! Please submit your nominations via email to Ally Bides,, with “Student Speaker Nomination” in the subject line. Students have until April 30th to submit their nominations.

Each graduate may bring up to 6 guests, and while there is no cost for graduates to attend the ceremony, guest tickets will be $15 each. If you or your guest will be in a wheelchair or need other accommodations, please email Ally Bides at psych@sfsu.eduTicket purchases must be made by Friday, May 3rd, 2019. Tickets will be available to pick up the week before the ceremony (5/13-5/17) in our office in EP 301.

Graduate Hooding Ceremonies

We are happy to announce that we will be holding our Graduate Hooding Ceremony at Seven Hills Conference Center (on campus) on Thursday, May 23rd. We will have two events, one for the MA graduates (9-11) and one for the MS graduates (12:30-2:30). Both events will be catered and have a professional photographer, additional time is built into the program to allow you to mingle and take pictures after the ceremony.

Guest tickets for the event are $35 each and can be purchased by following the link below. Be sure to select the correct event when buying tickets. Guests 10 or older need a ticket (graduates do not). If a child under 9 is attending, please email Ally Bides at so we can plan accordingly.

Due to space restrictions, graduates are limited to purchasing 5 guest tickets each.  If you need additional tickets, you may trade with another graduate but be sure to only trade within your degree (no MA-MS trades, only MA-MA or MS-MS). Tickets will be available for pick up starting Wednesday, May 15th. Please follow the link to purchase your tickets: Tickets should be purchased by May 13th.  

As this is a Hooding Ceremony, graduates should have their cap and gown for the ceremony proper. The dress code otherwise is daytime semi-formal. As we get closer to the ceremony, we will provide additional information for what to expect the day of the ceremony, as well as posting updates on our Facebook .
