Research Lab: People In Organizations Lab

About Dr. Yang: Personal Website

Dr. Shiyu Yang is an Assistant Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at San Francisco State University. Her lab examines how individuals behave, thrive, and struggle in the workplace. Ongoing and completed projects in her lab explore workplace diversity across gender, race, and cultural contexts, as well as the “dark side” of organizational life, specifically the dehumanization or objectification of employees.

The People in Organizations Lab provides training for both graduate and undergraduate students in theories and methods, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in understanding and researching real-world phenomena and challenges. Dr. Yang’s lab serves as an incubating space for students to develop their own research ideas, lead discussions, and develop professional skills in a collaborative environment.

Dr. Yang completed her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior at the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2022. She also holds a Master’s degree in Organization Studies and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Financial Economics and Psychology from Peking University. Her research has appeared in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Emotion, Creativity Research Journal, and Personnel Review.
