Alumni Career Panel

The Alumni Career Panel is hosted by the SF State Psychology Department and is a great opportunity to learn about career options available to Psychology majors. Events are held during Fall and Spring semesters and all are welcome to join. Attendees will observe a live informational interview with SF State Alumni and have an opportunity to ask questions about their career journey.

All events are held via Zoom Webinars. No need to dress-up or worry about your Zoom background because only the host and alumni speakers will have video/audio enabled. The audience can enjoy the show and ask questions via the chat feature. Click the registration links for each event to gain access.

All events are on Tuesdays from 5:00PM to 6:15PM (Pacific Standard Time).

Alumni Speakers:

  • Arwin Cotas-Girard, PsyD, LMFT
    Dr. Arwin Cotas-Girard is a licensed clinical psychologist. She graduated from SFSU with a BA in Psychology in 2011 and received her PsyD from The Wright Institute in Berkeley. She works for Kaiser Antioch’s child and family team providing psychotherapy services to children and adolescents. Dr. Cotas-Girard is also in private practice in Walnut Creek and specializes in psychological evaluations for individuals of all ages, especially those on the Autism Spectrum. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Collaborative Assessment Association of the Bay Area, a non-profit organization supporting the advancement of collaborative assessment through training/supervision, outreach/education, practice/consultation, and research. 

  • Mona Eshaikar, M.S., LMFT
    Mona is a licensed therapist and mental health consultant. She specializes in incorporating mental wellness into workplace DEIBA initiatives. She is passionate about work-life balance, addressing stressors that lead to burnout and psychological safety. She was born and raised in Southern California and attended UC Santa Cruz where she earned her Bachelors degree in Feminist Studies. Mona later earned a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from SF State and spent four years working at the San Francisco Department of Public Health providing direct services to houseless LBGTQIA+ youth. Mona then transitioned to a clinical supervisor role and worked at a variety of sites including community mental health agencies and a health-tech startup. During the pandemic, Mona quit her full-time job to open a small private practice and began contracting with an Human Resources Consulting Agency providing strategic advising and education.

Alumni Speakers:

  • Miya Gentry
    Miya graduated from SF State in 2016 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Religious Studies. Miya earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and Research Methods from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2020. For the last two years, Miya worked as a full-time Study Coordinator at UC San Diego Psychiatry Department. This fall, Miya began a PhD program in Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology at the SDSU/UC San Diego.
  • Shomonique Johnson
    Shomonique graduate from SF State in 2008 with a B.A. in psychology. Shomonique is a behavior analyst working with students with severe behavioral challenges in a school setting.

  • Julia Creason, M.A., BCBA
    Julia has worked in Applied Behavioral Analysis for approximately 6 years. Julia graduate with her B.A. from SF State in 2017. Julia has worked as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst since October 2021.  She loves disseminating behavior analysis and find her "flow" when providing staff training. 
  • Rachel Polivka
    Rachel graduate with a B.S. in Psychology and minor in Criminal Justice from SF State in 2018. Rachel is a data research analyst at Evident Change, the nation's oldest non-profit researcher at the social justice non-profit, Evident Change. Evident Change uses data to improve and inform social systems, such as child welfare, juvenile probation, adult protective services, and sheriffs departments on a variety of projects.

Alumni Speakers:

  • Ishaa Ajay, M.A.
    Ishaa a Mixed Methods User Experience (UX) Researcher on the Android Messages team at Google, focused on bringing rich and seamless messaging experience to all users, everywhere. Ishaa has been at Google for 3 years. Ishaa has worked on 4 different teams and product areas conducting qualitative and quantitative research to help make usable and meaningful products. Ishaa has an M.A. in Psychology (MBB) from SF State and was previously a research assistant in the Personality and Well-being Lab studying how personality traits affect decision making and happiness. 
  • J.R. Guzmán, M.S.
    J.R. Guzmán is a 2014 SFSU I/O Psychology Graduate Program Alumnus. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he currently works at BetterUp, a professional development coaching and mental health app, as an HR Manager & Business Partner. Having worked in the University Residential Life space for 7 years, he transitioned to a career in Human Resources in 2013. Since then, J.R. has progressed in his HR career, earning his SHRM HR Certification, and working in both public sector and high-tech at companies such as Stanford University and Wish. His HR specialties include Employee Relations, Talent Development, Benefits Compliance, and Recruiting.
